Losing a pet can be very similar to losing a human loved one. You feel the loss and need a way to process your grief. For this reason, many people choose to cremate their dogs. At Country Hills Crematorium in Calgary, we do not offer pet cremation, but we do recognize the various reasons why you may choose to cremate your pet.

Cremation For Dogs

Here are the main reasons you may want to cremate your pet at a pet crematorium in Calgary:

1. To have something tangible to remember them with. Once your pet has been cremated, you may choose to keep their cremated remains in an urn, bury them or create a ceremonial remembrance item such as jewelry or blown glass art. These options all give you a tangible place to anchor your memories of your beloved pet.

2. So you can bury them. In most cases, cremating your pet is the simplest way to be able to bury them and give them somewhere as a final resting place. You can bury the cremated remains in a spot that you can return to remember your pet. Just be sure you follow all local regulations regarding where you are allowed to bury a container with remains to ensure no environmental ecosystems are damaged.

3. To be able to scatter their ashes. It can be a lovely way to begin the process of letting go of your pet to scatter their cremated remains. You can choose a favourite dog park or location you enjoyed spending time with them. Again, be sure you’re following local rules and regulations around where is an appropriate place to do so.

4. So you can have a memorial or celebration of their life. Some people choose to memorialize their pet with a service or celebration of life. You may also decide to make a donation in their name or volunteer hours at a local shelter in tribute to your pet. In many cases, having the cremated remains of your pet for these ceremonial gestures makes them feel connected to something.

When you lose a beloved pet, it might seem less significant than a human in your life, but pets can occupy an important place in our lives, hearts and families. It’s important to remember the great memories you shared and to find the best ways to grieve the loss. Having your pet cremated can assist with this grieving process and help you to remember them in a tangible way.

The loss of a loved pet can also trigger thoughts of your own passing or how things will be handled when you or other loved ones pass away. In this event, our Funeral Services team can definitely help you to preplan your final arrangements and take this desire off your mind.

Though Country Hills Crematorium does not offer pet cremation, our crematorium in Calgary is always here for you. If we can offer you support in any way, please contact us at any time.
